Greetings from your new (and old) officers!

We are going to have a Steering Committee meeting to plan for the coming school year. The Steering Committee is a group of P.A.C.E. people including officers and others who get together to do the thinking, dreaming, planning, and working necessary to make all the good things happen at our regular meetings and events. Steering also will discuss directions for advocacy, and other very important things. One does not need to be an officer to “Steer.”

If you are interested in helping out by participating in the Steering Committee, please contact Pres. Scott or V.P. Deb., so we can make sure you have directions and any advance materials. Please contact us also if you have any questions.

Steering will meet Tuesday July 19th, from 6:30 p.m. to ??. We will be meeting in the conference room at the Karl Road Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Please join us if you have an interest in steering a course for 2011-2012!

This is a reminder that PACE’s May meeting is Monday, May 9th. This is a very important meeting as we conclude the school year and make plans for the future.

Please join us at Shepard Center at 6:00 PM

If you are interested in serving as a PACE officer for the upcoming school year or becoming more involved, this is the meeting to attend.

The 2011 Enrichment Fair was held on Monday, April 11th at the Downtown High School. The event was a success. There were 50 to 60 parents and students that participated in the event. Columbus City Schools (CCS) Superintendent, Dr. Harris provided opening remarks that were encouraging, strong, direct and sincere. She highlighted the efforts of the district to provide not only the state required identification of gifted students, but the service of those students from identification to graduation. She is dedicated to ensuring every CCS students is educated and prepared to become strong future leaders.

Presentations were made by the Educational Services Center of Central Ohio, Rita Glavan highlighting the challenges of raising a gifted child. Parents were provided more information regarding the Future Problem Solvers program, Rush Rogers. The evenings final presentation was made by the Gifted and Talented department featuring students providing testimony of their experiences.

Many children enjoyed the hands-on educational acitivities provided at the fair. Parents were able to talk wth the CCS gifted and talented staff admiring their displays of student work at the Elementary (featuring ECLIPSE), Middle and High School levels. Summer opportunities information was provided by numerous vendors offering residential and day camp experiences.

According to survey results (35 collected), 94% received the information they expected, 100% rated the displays as excellent or good and 97% would attend a future enrichment fair.

P.A.C.E looks forward to a continuing strong partnership with Columbus City Schools parents, teachers and administrators to ensure our children receive the best educational experiences and opportunities.

We look forward to parents, guardians, family and students at the Monday, April 11th enrichment fair being held at the Downtown High School, 364 S. Fourth Street.

We will have displays and artifacts from the Elementary, ECLIPSE, Middle and High Shool programs, many vendors with information regarding summer opportunitities, a resourse room and a hands-on educational ativity room.

Come learn more about the gifted and talent deparment, meet educators and specialists manaing the gifted and talented program.

Parent Open Discussion

Monday, March 14 2011 6:00-7:30 PM

Sometimes we need other people to talk to that are on the same page. Please join in open discussion with parents of other identified Gifted and Talented Students at this month’s meeting. Whether you have just learned that your child(ren) are identified , have never attended a PACE meeting , or you are a veteran parent , you have things to learn from and share with other parents. We all have joys and frustrations when it comes to raising Gifted and Talented Students, we have students from all over the city from different cultures and school buildings, and we all want our children to reach their maximum potential. We are not in this alone.

Credit Flexibility

If your student is in High School or Middle School (or ever will be), you will be interested in joining our discussion about credit flexibility. Credit Flex is an innovative new program that enables students to earn units of high school credit based on a demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combination with completing hours of classroom instruction.

Our discussion will be led by some P.A.C.E. parents who have had experience negotiating the rather new process for credit flexibility, with input from educators in attendance.
