C.C.S. Selective College Admissions Info Night

A few years ago, P.A.C.E. had Dave Dobos, who was once a member of the Columbus City Schools board, gave an excellent presentation on the ins and outs of admission to highly selective colleges. This month he is again addressing this topic, by moderating a panel of experts consisting of C.C.S. graduates willing to share their experiences in the college admissions quest. While the main focus is on the most selective colleges, the principles apply throughout the college admissions “game.”

Come and learn more about college admissions, with a panel of students moderated by Mr. Dobos.
This is recommended for families with students in grades 8 through 11.

Arm yourself with the facts and get practical tips from district staff and other experienced parents to help you decide what pathway or program is right for your child. Even if this is not the year you face these decisions, it is good to be informed for advanced planning.

As always, there will be time for sharing other triumphs and concerns, as we follow our mission.

C.C.S. Gifted Brochures and Handouts – shared at September 2012 meeting

The Columbus City Schools resources that were shared at September meeting are available on the C.C.S. web site. (I know that with the excellent turnout we had Monday, several of you may not have been able to obtain all in which you had an interest.)

Brochures and Handouts may be found at the Gifted and Talented Department area of the Columbus City Schools web site. (Links also under “Organizations,” in right sidebar.)

Many of the brochures are on the “Parents” tab/page under “Parent Publications.” Other items of interest are elsewhere in the Gifted site.

First Meeting of 2012-2013 School Year – Monday September 10, 2012 – 6:30-8:00 p.m.

The first P.A.C.E. Meeting of School Year 2012-2013 is coming up soon!

Please join us for our September meeting:
Monday September 10, 2012 – 6:30-8:00 p.m.
at the Shepard Center, 873 Walcutt Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43219 (MAPS)

We will first get an update from key members of the Columbus City Schools Gifted and Talented staff on the implementation of the new Cluster-focused Gifted Services. This should be very helpful to parents both new and experienced in the adventure of raising a gifted child!

Then we will break into grade-level “Roundtables,” where we will have opportunity to learn more about the specifics of programs in grade levels appropriate to your children(s). Our C.C.S. Gifted and Talented educators will join with us in the discussion groups, to help answer questions and provide additional information.

We will also have information about the many programs for Gifted and Talented within the Columbus City Schools, that all can use in the Roundtable, as well as have for leisurely perusal afterward.

Come and build relationships with other parents and staff, as we strive to work together in bringing the best possible opportunities to all of our “kids>” Share your experience and hope, as well as receiving that gift from others.
