Nov 2018 Meeting – Social-Emotional needs

NOVEMBER PACE MEETING
Social Emotional Panel – Parent Discussion
Although giftedness is often evaluated and seen through the lens of intellectual
achievement, giftedness also often comes with a variety of social and emotional
needs. Anxiety, perfectionism, and stress are part of the day to day lives of many
gifted students. Heightened awareness and emotional empathy, intellectual
maturity paired with age appropriate immaturity, issues with peer relationships
and sense of self manifest in many of our gifted children.
Please join us for a panel discussion about Social Emotional Needs of gifted
children. Talk with other families about your shared experiences raising these
exhilarating, frustrating, wonderful kids.
Thursday, November 28, 2018, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Georgian Heights Elementary School
784 Georgian Drive, Columbus, Oh 43228

  1. I noticed that your P.A.C.E. meeting last evening featured a discussion about Social and Emotional Learning, which has been rightly gaining significant attention around the country. You may already be aware that the Washington Post Live held an excellent conference yesterday afternoon dealing with Education in America, and the program included a segment entitled, “The Case for Social and Emotional Learning.”

Vicky Dinges, Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations at Allstate, moderated a sponsor segment with Tim Shriver, Board Chair of the Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning, and John Bridgeland, Founder and CEO of Civic Enterprises, about the importance of social and emotional learning in education.

Here’s a link to video highlights of the segment: https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/postlive/content-from-the-allstate-foundation-the-case-for-social-and-emotional-learning/2018/11/29/0d862367-66b7-40aa-a778-7b4d3f765da1_video.html?utm_term=.7c1fff54a309

And, in case you or others are interested, here’s a link to highlights of the entire program:

I hope this information is helpful.
Take care and see you soon!
